Foreign Pilot License validation

Pilots license validation: Foreign pilot licenses are subject to verification and validation because they are not considered tamper-proof.

If the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) did not verify the validity of your license, this would leave the door wide open for fraud.

Therefore, you should complete the FAA Verification of Authenticity form online at least 3 month before traveling to the United States. Sometimes it may requires more time to process, depending on the origin of your license.

Pilot License Validation Application Online

Please visit https://iacra.faa.gov/ to register for an IACRA “Applicant” account and log into the program. After logging into the program, select the option to “START FOREIGN VERIFICATION PROCESS” and that will lead you through the steps necessary to apply.

When and how to apply for the letter of authenticity

  • Due to the high volume of applications received at the FAA AFS 760 Office, new applications will be processed in the order they were received.
  • We recommend to apply for the Letter of Authenticity about 3 month before you travel to the U.S.
  • Unfortunately the FAA AFS760 Office does not allow to expedite the process. Alternatively you may like to obtain a Stand-Alone U.S. Private Pilot License as your previous flight time will be recognized towards FAA training requirements. Please contact us for further information.

When do you need a letter of authenticity?

  • Acquisition of an Instrument Rating without FAA Stand-alone PPL
  • Acquisition of Commercial Pilot Certificate. Once you receive the U.S.CPL this will be a Stand-alone Certificate, independent from your foreign Certificate. However, to be eligible for the CPL you must hold at least a Private Pilot Certificate.
  • Acquisition of a Multi Engine Rating without Stand-Alone U.S. Certificate
  • U.S Restricted License foreign based (Validation)
  • If you hold a FAA Validation/ Foreign based FAA License and your based-on license number and/or Type/Class ratings changed since.
