TSA Flight Student Registration

TSA flight student registration for international flight students as Non-U.S. Citizens must comply with TSA regulations and requirements before they can start flight training in the U.S.

We must acknowledge your registration and your flight training request to the TSA. Please send us your flight training application on-line BEFORE you start your registration on the TSA website.

Wait for the Florida Flyers Enrollment Confirmation

Register at www.fts.tsa.dhs.gov Select our St. Augustine Campus

Click on the “Application Guide” Tab and follow the Steps

After TSA Registration Register for fingerprinting at NATA Click here

We will automatically receive a Flight Training Request from TSA once your on-line registration has been completed.

Once all Enrollment documents and deposit payments have been received and your Training request has been checked, we are going to confirm your TSA Training Request electronically.

You will receive an email from TSA Alien Flight Student Program once your request has been accepted by us

Now log in at www.fts.tsa.dhs.gov to pay the TSA fee of $130. A green payment symbol will be shown right next to your training request

Once TSA has processed your documents and information, you will receive an email with “Fingerprint Instructions”

We are taking your fingerprints and submit them to NATA/TSA.

You will receive an email stating “Fingerprints received, Permission to initiate training” when your request will be processed. As soon as we receive this email, you have permission to start flight training.

The final step will be the message from TSA “Final approval”. Now you will have 360 days to complete your flight training course. Your fingerprints may be stored at TSA for further flight training requests.

TSA Categories 1-3

Category 1

For Candidates pursuing training in aircraft with a maximum certified takeoff weight (MTOW) of over 12,500 lbs. who do not qualify for Category 2. Category 1 is generally for pilots who do not have a type rating for ANY aircraft with MTOW over 12,500 lbs., and have never filled out a training request with the AFSP. NOTE: After the AFSP emails a Fingerprint Receipt to the Candidate, there is a wait period that may take up to 30 days.

Category 2

Candidates pursuing training in aircraft with a maximum certified takeoff weight (MTOW) of over 12,500 lbs. must choose one of the following subcategories NOTE: After the AFSP emails a Fingerprint Receipt to the Candidate, there is a wait period that may take up to 5 business days.

Category 3 TSA Flight Student Category

For Candidates pursuing training in aircraft with a maximum certified takeoff weight (MTOW) of 12,500 lbs. or less. Candidates are only required to obtain AFSP approval for the following training events: Single Engine Land (SEL) – Includes initial Airman’s Certificate, including a private, recreational, or sport pilot certificate. If a private and/or commercial license is the candidate’s initial FAA license, it is considered an initial airman’s certificate and is not exempt. Instrument Rating (IR) and Multi Engine Land (M

Fingerprinting

We have a NATA Fingerprint collector on-site. Shortly after your arrival we will be collecting your fingerprints for TSA electronically.

Please be aware that we MUST wait for TSA approval first, before flight training can be started. At Florida Flyers fingerprints are electronically collected and submitted to TSA.Thus, we normally receive the permission to initiate training within 24 hours. Once your fingerprints are scanned and recorded they can be transferred for any future training request.
